Agency Reports Submitted to the General Assembly

Section 101.68(B) of the Revised Code requires that when reports must be submitted to the General Assembly, copies of the reports must be submitted to the Director of the Legislative Service Commission (LSC). Section 101.68(C) requires LSC to monthly inform each member of the General Assembly of the reports received. Below is the annotated bibliography of reports recently submitted to LSC. The bibliography, compiled by the LSC Library staff, also includes other documents that may be of interest to legislators. Report required by R.C. 3314.029; states that during the 2018-2019 school year, the Office of School Sponsorship sponsored 33 schools, assuming five of these during the school year; notes due to the "significant increase in the number of sponsored schools over the last four years, the Office of School Sponsorship did not accept applications for new schools"; compares percentage of economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities at the sponsored schools with public schools and all community schools; lists each the sponsored school and provides a short description of its focus.

RECOMMENDATIONS ON OHIO'S KINDERGARTEN READINESS ASSESSMENT, May 2019, 9 pages + 1 page cover letter

Report required by S.B. 216 of the 132nd General Assembly; the Superintendent of Public Instruction presents the four recommendations of the Early Childhood Comprehensive Assessment Advisory Committee to improve the assessment of kindergarten readiness: (1) reduce the number of items within assessment, (2) shorten the timeframe for administration, (3) allow other educational professionals beyond the kindergarten teacher of record to administer and score the assessment, and (4) invest in the rebranding of the assessment so that the public and users understand what its purpose is and how it should be used by schools, teachers, and families; transmittal letter of the Superintendent indicates his support for all of the recommendations, but notes that recommendation number (2) requires legislative action.
