Qualifications

The 15 members appointed by Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate must have broad knowledge and experience in the arts (majority other than professional artists); 2 members of the Senate appointed by President of the Senate (nonvoting); and 2 members of the House appointed by the Speaker (nonvoting). Members appointed from each House must not be of same political party. Legislative members must be appointed within 10 days of beginning of session to terms ending December 31 following year. The Governor may appoint such professional artists as are necessary, in the Governor's judgment, to ensure that the Council is broadly representative of all the arts.
