Qualifications
Original 12 appointed by Joint Committee on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities to each Council created after 11/15/81. After first Council, Director of Developmental Disabilities appoints from recommendations of remaining members of the Council. If Director rejects nominees, Director must appoint from new recommendations of the Council. Of the appointed members, at least 7 must be nonproviders of services. Each council must include parents or other relatives of residents of institutions under the control of the Department, community leaders, professional persons in relevant fields, and persons with interest in or knowledge of developmental disabilities. Ex officio (nonvoting): managing officer of the institution. May not serve more than 2 consecutive terms.
