Qualifications
Governor appoints 6 members with advice and consent of Senate. 3 of these members must have been engaged for a period of at least 5 years immediately preceding their appointment in an executive or managerial position in a private, trade, technical, or other school subject to the Board's jurisdiction. 1 member must represent students and have graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree within 5 years prior to appointment from a school subject to the Board's jurisdiction and, except for enrollment in such a school, cannot have had any affiliation in any way with, or have had any direct or indirect interest in, any schools subject to the Board's jurisdiction for at least 2 years prior to appointment or during the member's term. 2 members must represent the general public and must not have had any affiliation with, or direct or indirect interest in, schools subject to the Board's jurisdiction for at least 2 years prior to appointment or during their terms. In selecting the members who represent the general public, the Governor must seek persons with background or experience in the regulation of commerce, business, or education. The Superintendent of Public Instruction, or an assistant superintendent designated by the Superintendent, and the Chancellor of the Board of Regents, or a vice chancellor designated by the Chancellor, are ex officio members. The member who represents students is a nonvoting member.
